Today's vintage children's book is The Book of Giant Stories written by David L. Harrison. The illustrations by Philippe Fix are well crafted and befitting the subject matter. For some reason, the young boy in the book is dressed in more modern clothes than the other characters, who are true to the period.
Philippe Fix was born in 1937 in Grendelbruch, Alsace, France. Fix got his start in comics but later switched over to children's books and advertising illustration.

ReplyDeleteIt is a wonderful book and the illustrations are just great.
ReplyDeleteI have searched on and off for about 12 years for this book which was lost in a fire for my father. He reminisces about reading me this book when I was 3 years old. I have searched through hundreds of giants books with little to go on except his memories of 30 years past. Until a moment ago I found a thread with a woman searching and describing the same book and helpful user posting a link to the cover. I was still unsure until I found your post with the illustrations from inside of the book. I know now beyond any shadow of any doubt this is a book of my childhood. Thank you so much for your post I can't wait until he opens this at Christmas I know he will cry as he sits with my children on his lap and reads it to them. Thank you This means the world to us!
